The Best Vegan, Plant-Based Proteins That Actually Taste Good
I’m not vegan or vegetarian, but I do like to choose plant-based options when given the chance. This extends to the protein powders and supplements I consume. There’s just one problem: a lot of plant-based protein powders taste like grainy garbage. That’s why I set out on a mission to find the very best plant-based proteins to try. Here are my favorites.
Nuzest Clean Lean Protein
This protein powder originally caught my attention because it has so few ingredients – just pea protein, your flavor of choice (I love “Smooth Vanilla”), and thaumatin (sweetener). But what kept me coming back is the smoothness of the powder – it’s super fine and doesn’t make your smoothie taste grainy whatsoever. The flavors are delicious too and they don’t have that artificial aftertaste that a lot of protein powders have. The one drawback is that it is on the pricey side: $45 gets you only 20 servings.

ès Plant-Based Protein Shake
I discovered this protein shake at my favorite workout studio, The Studio (MDR). I took a morning, pre-work class and wanted something to tide me over until lunch. It soon became a bit of an addiction as I looked forward to it as a post-workout treat. The protein comes from a blend of pea, chia, hemp, and cacao. The consistency is silky and smooth and the flavors are so good. My favorite is the Sea Salt Chocolate, but I highly recommend the other flavors as well. You really can’t go wrong.
Orgain Organic Plant Based Protein Powder
I’ll admit I was a little suspicious of this one, but when I finally tried it, I was pleasantly surprised. The texture was nice and smooth and the flavors were all delicious. This one is also more affordable than the previous two, so that’s a big plus in my book. The protein comes from a blend of pea, rice, and chia seed proteins and it also contains a variety of flavorings and sweeteners.
