How Acupuncture Can Help Clear Acne, Sagging Skin, and More
Going under the needle in the name of beauty is no groundbreaking concept, but there's another sharp approach that's been used to treat cosmetic concerns — and it spans back thousands of years. Vogue recently revealed the surprising beauty benefits of acupuncture, and it may just inspire you to book your next facial with your acupuncturist. NYC acupuncturist Shellie Goldstein, M.S., L.Ac. tells the fashion magazine how the ancient practice can revitalize your visage and more. The treatment is generally believed to originate from China, where it was used as in holistic health therapies alongside herbs, massage, diet, and moxibustion (heat)," notes the Oxford Journals.
"It’s about adjusting that internal balance within," she tells Vogue. "We look at your internal well-being to decipher what’s going on. From the inside, we will make that change, and it will be reflected on the outside."
Goldstein notes that acupuncture can address everything from swollen faces (a sign of "digestive problems, allergies, or poor lymphatic drainage," she says) and acne to sagging skin. "Simply by putting a needle in the skin, you’re stimulating skin circulation, lymphatic drainage, and collagen production," she says, adding that the centuries-old treatment can also help promote energy flow in the body."
